I vegged about 3 weeks as well, I also wanted a short plant. It is about 12-14 inches tall right now at around 6 weeks, got slightly less hairs than yours, in a day or two it will be the same.

Are you starting them indoors? also depends how you are sprouting. Water when the soil gets pretty dry on top, you dont want it to be constantly soggy, it needs oxygen as much as water. Also its easier to over water than under water, so keep that in mind
