I am having the exact same problem and thinking of switching to running at night myself. I will do the long night period if I switch to lights on after sun goes down. You definitely don't want to use longer then 12hr light period. Just to be safe and not set back flowering by promoting veg time...

The best advice I could give you is to buy and read this book. Its got a lot of good information in my opinion. Also don't be afraid to try different things.
