my friend uses single 1000 watt lights 2 plants under in 7 gallon pots, he uses soil and feeds heavy synth nutes and pulls a pound per light. very do able, you just need to be adamant about feeding, and it doesnt hurt to bubble your nutes prior to feeding, adding sugar every time is never a bad...
