I dont know about it being too dense I just cant imagine 5 plants per sq. ft with each yielding nearly an oz dry. Maybe if you cover all the walls with a vertical SOG (a 5 plane SOG) then I think you'd have a more reasonable shot at your 5lb goal

no problem always happy to help but basically its 4 square feet. You want about 40-60 watts of hid light per sq. ft with cfls 50-80 watts per sq. ft. (Depends how you position them, reflect them) High end of 80 watts per sq. ft would put you at 320w i wouldnt run more than that personally

That seems like too much watts you gotta think about lumens per square foot. CFls are less efficient per watt then an HID when it comes to photosynthetic energy per waty but most people run 16-25 square feet with a 1000w lamp. 500w in cfls when positioned well could easily get you 200 grams dry...

Buckets have like a 12" diameter and theres only 2 of them. No matter how much those plants fill the room there is space from the floor to the top of the bucket right? Unless your plants bend down below the bucket

On the left is hydroton on the right is the slate alternative. The slate had more grit for sure and is a variety of sizes where as the clay is much moee uniform.

if you intend to run a maximum ec of 1.5 (i would call that safe for most strains) then you may want to start off with an ec of .5 - .7 and slowly build it up each time you change the res and mix a new batch of nutes hope that helps happy growing!

Make sure you get a decent air pump to aerate your solution properly (if water isnt splashing out of the bucket or wetting the stalk then the more air the better imho). I use 1900gph for 14 2 gallon buckets but its kinda overkill. Also monitor your water temperature you dont want that temp too...

Maybe just get some elbow joints and attach your two buckets to another bucket or something but either way it's worth the trouble so you dont have to worry about them drinking the bucket dry while you're at work

You're running 3 gallons right? 5 gallons have same size lids

Make sure you wash your clay pellets/ grow rocks before using them if you dont there will be alot of clay dust in your res
