do you know how the water is softened? if it is with salt, that will cause so many problems. better to go to a local grocery store and buy purified water or install a reverse osmosis filter before your softener.

i doubt its the contactor if it is running the fans and cfl's fine. maybe the ballast, or the bulb if it has been re-fired frequently

I had 1000w about 45 inches off some 2 week old plants, i think you may be light burning them with the 12 inches. 45 inches wasnt enough for mine, I switched to cfl's until I have a day off and can get to the hydro store and get t5's

flushing is with ph balanced water, no nutes. and 2x the volume of the container, so for 2.5g pots, 5g of water.

I can't say I recommend it, as there are plenty of ready made solutions to use that are really inexpensive, that have no other effects, its hard to say what trace elements and salts may come out of citrus juices. it will lower your ph, but at what cost is the question.
