wayy to many people ruining good plants because of stretching. The reason they stretch is so they can get near the light source.

i would just dig a hole (not too deep) and put some of the MG in there, just plant it and put chicken wire around it so no insects would go near.

Also you dont really need to worry too much about a perfect grow for your first grow. Just worry about keeping it alive, would recommend some soil though. I have had GREAT yield with Miracle Grow. Just remember marijuana is a weed not a spoiled 3 million dollar flower, no need to check on it...

cooling fan, and a better and more light There are 2 stages vegetative and flowing for vegetative a white spectrum would be good (CFL's) about 6500 lumens and for flowering i recommend about 7k+ lumens (flowing is better with redish spectrum) (hps)
