drastic changes in temperatures stress them out A LOT! they like to stay around the same to be the happiest. perhaps less than 10 degress from day to night. i noticed the leaves would curl up and get dry, but not turn any other color. this is how the leaves looked from drastic temp. change.

well i'm not an expert but if the temperature gets too hot like above the mid 80's it will have to be vented. with a co2 unit, and a light that puts out quite a bit of heat i'm just guessing but i'm almost sure you'll need a vent fan like in a bathroom. i would try it and see how it goes as is...

i'm not so sure about putting something on top of the soil. i don't think it's so good to keep too much moisture in. i water mine once everyday. i noticed if they stay too moist that black flies like them too much. as long as the new leaves are healthy looking i wouldn't worry.
