Seems to me, years ago breeders would list the time from flip. Then more and more seed companies started popping up with claims of really low flower times. So to compete with short flowering times more and more breeders started advertising from pistols not from flip.

I would never base my grows on cup winners. I am sure you are aware of the "politics" involved and many cup winners are more popularity based than they are quality based.

it is all about the light cycle. Although, even with the light cycle they have to be mature enough. If you put a seedling in 12/12 light and leave it, it still will take 2-3 (maybe even 4wks depending on strain) to mature enough to enter flowering cycle.

Basically ignore what the breeder says unless it has been verified by outside growers. Most people who are trying to sell you something will report the best not the worst. Probably 1 in 10 phenos will finish in 10wks, other 9 phenos will be 12-14 weeks.
