Only use the pistils to determine if you are getting anywhere. As long as all pistils are white you have a long way to go still, but don't use that to determine ripeness - won't work. Remember that the very sativa ones will continue to grow new flowers/pistils until the day you harvest.

Something else put into stuff to make it seem to be more than it is ;O) For instance oil mixed into hash to make it look more oily - or sand put into hash to make it heavier.

Different weeds will work very differently on you. Old weed will be more couchlock too - and yes as suggested - sativa and indica have very different highs that can really be felt - especially if you have the oportunity to compare them.

I agree he'll be fine and that you can check the plants every now and then doing no harm. But you could easily be unlucky having it disturb your plant making it either finish later or making it produce a couple of male flowers here and there.
