look on the lamp or ballast for a sticker of some type that denotes which bulb to use.

exactly, you need to know the base type. I can find at least 10 different 175 watt bulbs in 5 seconds, that have either medium or mogul bases. Mogul is the largest base, and medium is slightly smaller than mogul.

175 watt bulbs come in either medium or mogul base... If you buy the wrong base type then it will not fit your fixture. Can u supply a link the light you bought from HTG at least?

Its either a mogul or medium base. It either fits in the socket or it doesn't. It either says 175 watt MH or it doesn't. If you have a light in mind that you want to buy, then just post a link to it. Otherwise, the ambiguity in this thread will get you nowhere.

Yes that is a suitable CFL for growing. That light would best be used with a reflector or at the very top of your PC case. That light will produce more heat than a normal CFL, so you will need fans to evacuate heat.
