I have some friends who tried doing this and said they really didn't notice much of a difference letting the lower buds grow a bit longer. You have to remember that when you make such a severe cut to the plant, its hormones get super jacked up and it's not going to grow the same way it once was...

I personally use 2-3 gallon "smart pots". Similar concept to the grow bags but the material is made out of a breathable fabric that allows more oxygen to the roots and allows the soil to drain more uniformly. I really like them and would recommend them to anyone: http://www.smartpots.com/
