The ballasts in the fixture itself are different. If you want to change the Ballasts in your fixture that will work, but it is cost prohibitive.

T5's are different from T12's. They do not work in the same fixtures. But if you have the money to buy a T5 fixture, I highly recommend it for Veg. Lot's of Lumens with very low heat.
