I would think in bags that always happens, though I never have used them. remember that mush double in size every 24 hours, and there is plenty of time to let them fully open their veils before they sporelate, which is a mess

leave them till the veils break. they will find the surface

the forest is a good choice... If you eat them fresh you will optimize what you have

never freeze them fresh, they will turn to mush, literally. Dehydrated well and keep in a airtight cool and dark place
