Yeah, I've been using a cheapo one with 15 minute increments I got at Lowes for like $12... Have had no issues running a digital ballast with a 400w light (ventilation/pumps runs 24/7). You shouldn't have any issues either, as long as you don't exceed its capacity (usually 1500-1825 watts)...

Depends on the size of your grow area. They will still raise the ambient temperatures if you are growing in a tent type set up (especially with that many). That said, they can be placed much closer to the plants because each bulb isn't very hot, but yes, generally CFLs run cooler than MH/HPS...

+1. You want to be at 30-50 watts per square foot. 8x8 is 64sqft... and that's only ~15 watts/sqft. 4x5 would be 50 watts per foot.

What's your PH at? I had some twisting of my leaves and I read it was caused by the PH being off. Also, I read that top of the rockwool should some hydroton covering it so that it doesn't dry out or grow algae. Lastly, the dull side of the foil is more reflective :).

Oxy pots are DWC... just that the air pumps sit inside the resevoir, like a water pump... I think most people that do DWC don't have submersible air pumps. I've heard of plants drinking a gallon of water a day in later flower.
