    Question about rain outdoors

Not terribly experienced or anything but I read somewhere that it helps to gently shake the excess water off of your plants when the rain stops.

    Question concerning watering

I think that the point is, if you are growing in a 'soil' medium, is that chlorine does not discriminate which types of bacteria to kill. Meaning that if you do not take measures to remove or lessen chlorine levels in your water you could be killing the beneficial microbeasties in your medium...

Is my water rotting with molasses/nutes?

I think that it has probably gone sour, you should consider oxygenating it. Below are a couple excerpts from a different thread, the link is also below. Hope this helps. If you keep your tea oxygenated by bubbling it (with a cheap aquarium air pump) - as long as the air pump stays on, it stays...

Does Organic Soil Create More Pests???

Found a couple teeny tiny dead ones on the floor of my closet, I think the lights got them... Ended up hanging some fly paper, I don't see anything in there anymore.

    Why organic?

Compiled from different sources, can be applied to our 'fruits'... Organic growing looks at the interrelationships of all living organisms and works in concert with the cycles of nature. Organic growing avoids the use of: synthetic fertilizers synthetic pesticides Instead, organic...

    Reintroducing microbeasties to sterilized soil...

Made a little tea with some compost and added some molasses for good measure (I hope that was okay), let it bubble for about a day and a half and drenched my soil with it. The soil is drying out right now as I had completely saturated it. Hopefully it will be good and alive by the time I...

    Another kooky question from Ghost...

Hope I get an answer, heh. Anyhow, I believe I had read something about putting hydroton balls on top of your soil in potted plants to retain moisture and to help keep soil from being displaced when watering... With no hydroton balls available/affordable I was thinking about using a cedar...

    Will this cause hot spots?

Pretty old post but I used a little duct tape on the emergency blankets I hung so they wouldn't rip when I stuck them to the wall with some silver headed thumb tacks. Same benefits as using hook and loop fasteners I suppose since you can reposition easily and keep it taut against the wall as...

'Protecting' your thermometer from radiant heat/energy...

I was just wondering if you think this should help... Also, should I perhaps cover the outside with mylar? Not counting on the reflectivity benefitting the plant so much as keeping heat away from the thermometer. Any helpful thoughts and advice is much appreciated as always. Oh, I forgot ask...

    Reintroducing microbeasties to sterilized soil...

Thanks for the replies. I will try the compost tea as that is readily available and wouldn't take at least a month to get here. At least I got most of the bugs out of the soil dumping a couple in with the compost tea shouldn't be too bad I think.

    Reintroducing microbeasties to sterilized soil...

I sterilized the soil mix that I intend(ed) to transplant my baby into outside on the grill with some water in it. The mix if anyone is curious is about 3 parts homemade compost to 1 part Jiffy Organic Seed Starting Mix. Quite meager from what I have read that alot of you are using but...

New to the forum, pretty new to growing.

Greetings from southeast Asia! (Where the goods are ridiculously difficult to come by...) We, the wife and I, haven't smoked in months since our last reliable source was either thrown in prison and/or deported. Luckily enough I had the presence of mind to hold onto the only two (yes two :-?)...
