You could try pinching.This is where you pinch the stem at a desired point to stop upward growth from that point.Which in turn promotes the lower branches to catch up. Keep in mind when you flower there going to get 2-4 times as tall depending upon your strain.

Havent tried this for pest control but I have had VFT's just for fun an they always died. I really dont think this would be the best option because they will never completely control a pest problem.It would eat a few but the rest would still breed and make more.

IMO jiffy pucks are the way to go.Get a humidome,get some 10-52-10.Mix up a 1/4 strenghth 10-52-10 solution(it has a label),soak 15 JP(jiffy pucks) in the humidome with this solution.Add enough solution so theres a bit still left in the humidome.Make your cuttings,dip em in stim root powder #1...
