I've grown Lettuce in a DWC system before. Anything with plenty of Nitrogen works great. Lettuce will produce great results in any hydro set-up I'm sure. I read somewhere that it take 1/3 of the time to produce a head of lettuce using hydroponics, compared to using soil.

Yeah you're right man. If it can't be seen by humans (like IR or something) it doesn't get any lumens towards it. So lumens isn't really what we should be going off of. But yeah you're totally right.

I disagree. A 250 watt HPS bulb will put off ~24,000 lumens, while CFLs put off 50-70 lm/W (lumens per watt). So let's say he's getting around 60 lm/W; 60x400=24,000 watts. Although these are rough figures, it's going to be pretty close in lumens. The HPS will also beat the hell out of the CFLs...

Except for the fact that he still has some CFLs to back up the HPS if it goes out. :D But hey man, if you get a 250w HPS, why not use it and all of your CFLs? That's most likely what I would do. The more light the better.

Often times, growing from sunlight through a window indoors, doesn't supply enough light for the plant. Unless the angles are just right. But, assuming you have enough light, with proper air circulation, it should be just fine with the mylar.

I would say 90 is the minimum for a tri-band. Add any more bands, and you'll need to compensate.

Germination means the seed is starting to sprout. Doesn't have anything to do with where you put it. What kind of light are you using?

Blue Dream. I have grown many strains and Blue Dream was by far the least odorous. You could hardly smell it at all, actually.

Don't do a 24/0 light schedule. Keep it real with 18/6.

Never start seeds in the same pot. Remember that, and it will save you and your plants a lot of hassle.
