Get em water asap. They look like they will kick right back up. I had a similar problem and I sprayed water on them, and within an hour they were getting happy again. Be sure to feed soil tho! I also decided to purchase some aqua globes to use for whenever Ill be gone longer than 2 days.

You need a dc adapter, the fan should have 3 wires, connect the black and red wire to adapter, then tape off yellow wire. There are several DIY threads on it, but it is pretty simple.

I dont think he used the carbon rocks. He used a activated carbon filter. The black material you see in his pictures is the filter. Assuming it has activated carbon inside of it.
