just burying the stem will suffice...anything else you do is just wasting time and material. bury the stem up the the bottom node and roots will begin to form from where it was buried and down. everyone should do this every time they up-can.

make sure there is airflow over each bulb...people say to get cfls because they run cooler...this isnt really true. the spiral design of cfls is flawed as it keeps heat trapped inside its spirals. most smaller HPS setups will run cooler then a few cfls will. make sure each bulb has a good amount...
