Never heard of it, but the pros would be it's probably good for a newbie, you don't need to know much about soil. Cons are the price... $23 is expensive, especially if you are doing a large grow.

Pink hairs are a genetic trait. I think what others were thinking of is purple leaves or buds. This IS brought out by cold weather, but again it is related to genetics of the strain. Some strains are more prone to this then others.

Marijuana is pretty resiliant. If you say they look normal after fixing the ventilation issue, then you should be ok. You will need to remove any dead leaves or buds, otherwise it could lead to mold or rot. Also pics would help give a better idea what you are dealing with.

That's pretty young to be feeding it ferts... At that age the soil should have enough available nutes in it for the plant. When plants are that young it is very easy to over fert. I'd hold off unless you are seeing signs of nute deficiancy. And I agree, you should transplant to a larger container.

Crazy looking purple... Is something eating them? I see some signs of it on that last pic.

Pots looks a little small for that size, they're probably root bound. But other then that they look good.
