Sounds to me like he has no idea whose plant it was initially, and trying to find out might be dangerous. If you can't move it indoors and control its life cycle, I would start a schedule of putting a trash bag over it after 12 hrs until you're done.

I had a big odor problem as well, and the carbon scrubber couldn't keep up. So we got a jar of Onagel from the hydro store and it did help out quite a bit. If you want to increase the cover up, put a fan blowing over the jar. It will evaporate the liquid much quicker, but it works to cover...
