Think positive maybe the 3 left are all females ! Make sure you have a fan gently blowing on them as it will toughen up their stems and make them stronger as well. Looking good mine were looking the same 3 wks ago now their all bushy and healthy just takes time..

Try adding another air stone,I use two one under each row of net pots. I tied a lead weight to each end of them to keep them from floating around..just a thought..

If its brown maybe you didn't pre wash your hydroton? If its white could have been something in your water lines in your house or wherever you got your water from ?? Just a guess ,it would be a shame to have to dump it with it all nuted up !!

If you need a irragation hub check out home depot they have them for about 10 bucks, and plenty of other parts that can be used for bubblers...

Yes as long as you wash the roots good it should be fine..If there still short just put them in either rockwool or in the clay medium and adjust your drip lines to drip in the medium till the roots hit the water..
