    U want a thick mycelium base so a thicker cake base is a must. Plus they won't dry out as fast. I was always told the deeper u can make it the better ur yield will be.

    Just make sure light doesn't get through to the bottom to keep the mushrooms on top. This way u don't have to worry about the early ones to rot under the caseing on the side of ur tray/container. Also instead of crumbling u can break into large chunks

    Thanks for the help everyone. I think it is a root bound problem. My roots are huge and working with the plant is becoming difficult. Needless to say it doesn't fit into a five gallon bucket anymore for a temporary stand when I am doing res changes. But that's not a bad thing either
