Is there a reason for keeping the light so high? My 400w is at about 15" and I don't feel heat/burn on my hand using the "hand" method. I thought that you lose lumens the farther away the light is. Thanks!! Good thread. Will be watching.

Hey, thanks for the reply. The temp depends upon where I have the thermometer. If it's lower than the plant level and out of the light, it's generally in the low 70sF. If it's in near the plant level and exposed, it tends to get closer to the upper 70sF.

OK...I know this is one of the perennial questions, but here goes...I have a 400W HPS in a PL Midi reflector. Not air-cooled, other than a fan that blows in the space in between the light in the plant tops. At this point, the light is probably about 14" from the tops...using the hand test...

Yes...I have the pump capacity for six airstones although I am lately led to believe that this may be overkill. Apparently, the water can only oxygenate just so much via the airstones, or something like that...and the recirculation also provides oxygenation. I may cut down to two in each tank...

Actually isn't it more of a deep water culture because the roots are always sitting in a tub of nutes? Of course, I don't know my ass from elbow around some of this nomenclature. I should add that 5 years ago I did about three grows. Each one was better than the next. So I think this system...
