    Feminized seeds?

Yeah, as far as I know. Don't quote me though, I'm not privy on the specifics (again ironically, though one of my plants late in flowering did grow a couple bananas, so the name isn't all wrong) I know they use some sort of colloidal silver concentrate to encourage the male genes/parts to come...

Anyone ever had bad luck getting all male plants?

This time around I didn't make the mistake of naming my plants before the flowering stage at least. ;o Less attachment....poor buggers.

    Feminized seeds?

Ironically, my name says it all. Forcing a plant to turn hermaphrodite, therefore self-pollinating, making feminized seeds. It has something to do with colloidal silver - I've only just researched it a little.

Anyone ever had bad luck getting all male plants?

Good call guys. The sexing thing is a headache anyway. I'm thinking some white widow feminized from nirvana, but do you guys recommend or swear by anything specifically?

Anyone ever had bad luck getting all male plants?

It's looking like most of my ladies, er, guys are turning out to be male. :( I suppose it's just bad luck. I have a few more plants growing, but they're a little bit behind, so hopefully at least one will bat for the female team. The weird thing is the male pre-flowers have started showing...

    how am i doing

The light is a a factor in stretching, but it could also be a nutrient deficiency or imbalance. It almost looks like a potassium deficiency (edit: or maybe toxicity) due to pH issues perhaps? Do you use tap water?

    How long to sprout?

You know it depends on the situation and seed. I've had seeds take over a week and turn out fine.

    Is this a male??????

I'd put my money on male. Looks like a ball sac to me.

    newbie HELP with nutrients

Not to digress too much but I've heard mixed reviews of Canna - I know they're high quality, but from my experience they are a bit finicky/intense. I know when I was growing hydroponically, I absolutely hated them because they were so unstable with pH; I stuck with general hydroponics in that...

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

Thanks again for the help on watching the pH and so forth. I know pH meters alone are a bit cheaper than the combo readers too. I might start a log or something for progress - but I might not put it up until it's said an done. I hope I can pass down some of this help to others too. 8) This...

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

Yeah that was my idea too, I'll probably wait at least a week to let them search for their own food so to speak. I actually get a surprising amount of run-off, but I really try soaking each pot with at least a half gallon of water; maybe since they're young I can get away with putting less...

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

Looks like I posted right when you did, it's a 5x5 SecretJardin tent, 2 400watt lights at the moment, but I'm thinking of getting a 1000w HPS for flowering as it'd be more efficient than 2 less powerful bulbs. If I had 2 MH bulbs I'd probably be using MH strictly, but ah well, I'm working with...

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

Here's a pic of the progress. I only hope they start really bushing out - mind you I just watered them today, so they're a little droopy I guess. Under 2 400watt lights, one MH, one HPS. http://img138.imageshack.us/i/img0244mv.jpg/

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

Yeah, TBH I need to go get a new one. It's been so long and during the move and shuffle of life/moving I can't for the life of me find my old Hanna ph/ppm meter, which by now would need a new sensor node thing anyway. That's part of the reason I went for soil because I didn't want to dish out...

1st CFL indoor grow...Tips more then welcome!

Hey just out of curiosity, did you top/pinch your plants within the first month?

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

And I think part of the reason this grow has been so difficult for me is -not- knowing exactly how much PPM is going through the veins of my plants. Going from hydroponics to soil is mind boggling guess work. As much work as hydro is, it's more efficient in the way that you -know- exactly...

First soil grow: How can you tell when plants really need nutrients?

I know this is a dumb question for most of you following a regiment, but this is my first time using Fox Farm's Ocean Forest Potting Soil and complimentary nutes by FF. The plants have their 4th to 5th set of leaves and almost last week I put a low dose of 1 teaspoon of grow and 2 teaspoons of...

3 weeks old plants! [Growing in PC Grow Box]+ is it ill?

Hey, I'm no expert in soil growing, but that soil looks muddy and less than ideal for optimal root growth. Have you considered getting some Fox Farms Ocean Forest mix or making your own high quality mix? The nice thing about FFOF is it won't need much nutrients to start with as the soil is...

What's wrong please? No potency at all from my Nirvana plants.

Maybe the plant didn't mature enough? Nirvana just distributes seeds I thought, I didn't know they produced/made their own genetics. Take care, sorry about the grow - I know how that feels. Sucks.

Is it OK to go from a 4 inch pot directly to the 5 gallon pot?

That was my concern too, but others here seem to think it won't be a huge deal. I might consider getting some 1 gallon pots and then going to the 5 gallon, but we'll see. It's scary how expensive nice, reusable pots are. Part of me wishes I'd done hydroponically again, but I was tempted into...
