It is a good idea but be careful not to put it right near your plants as it may be too "hot" until it has composted a bit. You can also mulch around the yard with cedar chips.
Anything below 28 F is very risky for most strains. If you want to leave them outside, they must be well mulched and covered with some kind of material (as you plan), but it's still iffy. At 18 degrees, even for a few minutes, you risk a total loss. However, if they are not nearly ripe and the...
I tried it with one plant and didn't see much difference. I'd be interested in hearing other's experiences. I plan to try with another couple of smaller plants. It's supposed to help the calyxes swell and with general ripeness, I suppose. However, if you wait until the plant is ripe when you...
I plan on vacuum sealing my mason jars after curing. I'm going to stick some in the freezer and some in the fridge and others in a cool, dark closet. I'll let you know next year which works best.
I would be reluctant to try that and risk mold. I'm waiting a couple of days until the temps drop to pull any more plants. Hopefully, that will make a difference.
I have never pulled an unripe plant due to frost on the horizon and don't think I ever will. It'll take some pretty gnarly weather to do these hardy plants in. Just keep an eye out for frost damage and remove affected leaves. As you get closer to peak ripeness, keep an eye on the weather and use...
^^Why not? I've had several pound plus plants over the years. This year, I am expecting about 5 or 6 and at least a couple that may break 2 pounds (and one that may come close to 3 dry).
The two most important things (other than food and water) I think are - start them early but wait until June...
I'm only doing a real trim on the top buds that are going into my half gallon mason jars. The rest are going to be packed more or less untrimmed (freezer bags, bins or buckets) for hash, extracts, etc. That's how I'm handling it.
That's strain dependent but if the temps are above 70 degrees the "smell" may vaporize (along with the taste, according to Rosenthal), which is why I am waiting a few days to chop some and drying outside in a barn. I'm trying to keep the temps below 70 to retain the fragrance and smoothness.
Good info, mariapastor - I'l check the calyxes. It was at week 9 so pretty done. I have 9 more plants I can do that with. (With 10 of my plants, I cut the bottoms of the containers out and sunk them.) I'll try another with a 24-hour dark period, maybe take some pics to help me see any diff. I...
I did a 24 hour dark period on the last plant I pulled. I pulled it out with the plug and put the whole thing into the barn for a day before I shook off and sprayed off the dirt. I examined it with a scope and it looked about the same. Also drying it upright. Not noticing much diff but if it...
I ordered seeds for the first time this year and it went smoothly. I ordered three times from two places and all arrived unopened. Go for it!

I'm drying in a barn with two open sides that I cannot shut. I have a fan up there but I doubt I'll need it. I'm trying to slow the process down. Hung a tarp to stop the air flow on one side. Don't use the heater unless there's an issue. Rosenthal recommends keeping temps below 70 so the...
