Yes, word of warning. Some people, me included have reported a high percentage of males in lowryder strains. I got 8/10 males which was disappointing to say the least. This is unusual but I think the average appears to be less than 50/50. It may be worthwhile investing in the feminized variety...

I'd think that is a little optimistic. I'd have estimated around 12. They often don't stay all that dwarfish under 400w HPS; quite often reaching 2 ft rather than the quoted 12-18 inches. Your best bet would be to see how many 2 gallon pots you can fit into your grow space.

+ Rep for proving me wrong. I have seen some expensive digital ballasts on the market with a "plus 10% electricity" setting to get more light out of the bulb in expense for life expectancy. I would never have thought, the bulbs could handle 33% extra without melting down.

Without more information it's difficult to judge but my guess is that you didn't keep the temperature up. Clones like it rather hot to take root 21C+. What light did you have them under?

I think HID lighting is the way to go. Granted the heat is more concentrated on one spot but the overall heat production will be less. It is also more efficient and will save you a lot in the long run due to the higher lumen/watt output. For veg I'd think a 250w Metal Halide system would suit...
