Sorry, running 400W MH and 1000W HPS

There are scarce articles that refer to minimal benefit of adding HPS to a veg, but possible significant benefit when HD is added to HPS during flowering. Does anyone have any information on this subject? I don't think I missed a discussion on the site.

Both of these pics are of the same plant, a little over a month old, now vegging under 400W MH 20/4. Can someone please identify the appendages that are circled? Are they pre-flowers? If not, can someone give me the correct anatomic name? Thanks much!

The color temperature of light is important. HPS gives off more red spectrum light, and you are adding more with a 2700 CFL. I am not a physicist, but yes, I think the HPS might be overpowering in the same color temperature. CFL's augmenting HID makes more sense to me in veg, using a 400W...
