I have only seen two reasons for white leaves so far and that has been a mutation in the plant or light bleaching. Someone here may have some good advice for you but starting at the bottom I doubt it would be bleaching from your light source

You can use pool noodles for the collars. You just cut them down to a disc and cut a small chunk out to fit the size you need and put the cut out chunk in the middle to fill the hole and hold the cutting. I have done this for other types of plants in the past and it worked great

What soil are you using? You may not need to feed them for awhile. I’m at 5 weeks in ffof with some small plants and haven’t done anything other than water

Space them based on coverage. A 600 watt hps should cover about a 3x3 zone so you could do 2 or 2.5 feet apart it would give you a little overlap on the light since edges can be weak. I’m not an expert in this I only run one light so you may want to wait for someone with more experience in this
