I used urine extensively and it is an excellent fertilizer.... but that said, not necessary for cannabis. Great for corn, but for cannabis you're better off getting your nitrogen from worm castings & quality compost. If you have a heavy feeder or you grow outside though; urine is very worth using. Wrote a how-to on urine at Overgrow. Too many people who think its just gross or whatever and never look at it seriously.

I have a San Pedro cactus that I use urine for every once in awhile. I've read and been told by long time growers that the cactus loves to have its soil peed in. What about using nails for iron or zinc? Do you know anything about that? How often do these plants suffer deficiencies from micronutrients? I know it's possible but is it as common as something like N,P or K deficiencies?

Honestly I keep it pretty simple. Just coir, verm, perlite, and worm castings. I only add a little bit of gypsum, dolomite lime, silicon dioxide, and I throw in whatever random organic fertilizers I have around. The best thing I ever added was the silicon dioxide. Man that stuff makes the plants hardy!

Yes there is truth to them. The results may be very subtle. old-timers used what they had. They used ingredients that were a lot of the time free. Now a days if you’re using a complete fertilizer it’s doubtful you’ll be lacking in zinc. therefore galvanized nails. These days if you’re using a complete fertilizer it’s doubtful you’ll be lacking in zinc And anything leached off the nails would probably runoff.
