The shit legislation known as Obamacare is seriously affecting millions of Americans. The Republicans do not have to add to the trainwreck, it is happening automatically.

I think republicans are taking a defensive posture for some reason at the moment.

Everyone is fully aware of the difficulties of the website, and Obamacare is just starting to come online. It could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, or it could flop.

The economy has been sputtering along, it seems as if it might finally be straightening up.

I think the smart play right now is let the events unfold over the next couple of months and see what things look like this summer, and plan your offensive accordingly.

The good news is both parties seem willing to work towards some sort of immigration policy. Will Obama get off his high horse and compromise a little?

Obamacare sucks but it is better than nothing and positivly affects almost everyone.
Immigration reform will be tough becuase of the small but important Racist base the Republicans have in their tent.

Notice I said "small" Because really the Xenophobes are a small group with a loud voice. Truth and Logic eliminates any (ir)rational arguement they try to make against immigration reform

Beating a dead horse is unseemly and not at all necessary.
It is, indeed, what it is.
The next three years are going to be filled with schadenfreude.
More than enough to go around.
Where is Boooosh when you need to blame him?... oh, silly me, Obama has had five years now to mop up the Booosh mess.
Seems to me he needs a new mop, at the very least.
Something is most definitely not working.
Hope and change???
Hello???

It may be the greatest thing since bread, but not since sliced bread. We need the republicans and dems to come together and correct the major flaws in this system. It is now taking root, it can easily be disaster. If the right stands by and simply waits for it to bring our country to its knees, then it is no better and perhaps worse than the Dems who got this plan moving. No large scale policy is without its serious flaws.

Suppose my family is riding in a car on a long trip. I circle the car and note that two of the back tires are saddly worn. I tell the driver/owner/father of my discovery and he says "shush, Canndo, you negativist, you never wanted to go on this trip anyway so get in the back and keep quiet". 300 miles into the desert we lose our tires. I will admit that at first I will laugh, proclaim how I was right and they were wrong, The trip should never have been made and everyone in the car is stupid.

But the reality is this. My whole family, including myself is stranded many miles from any help. I can either start walking in order to get help or I can sit in the back of the car roasting, sweating and hugging my self righteousnessness as though it were a canteen of fresh water.

Bwahahahaha

The Republicans are even shying away from that message

It's been 5 years now and things are only getting better, despite every attempt by the Republicans to thwart it

You really think that things are getting better?
Wow.
I could not possibly disagree more.
Pray tell what is improving?
The USA is suffering from the worst case of malaise in my lifetime.
If denial works for you, embrace it!
Wowee.

I have Culkin as my avatar since I think the picture is funny.

I never thought of him sexually although you seem to have.

There are programs to help you with that...

If, indeed, you are correct, why are things even worse now???
There has been no "recovery" from this alleged "worst" recession.
We are drifting in a seeming death spiral right down the old drain of history.

Business, wall street and Consumer confidence disagrees with you.
But if it comforts you keep believing the right wing hype

Yup, I concede things are just peachy keen, because you say so, it must be true.
Sorry.
Labor participation rates and GDP growth are skyrocketing. What a robust recovery.
Anemic and dismal at best.
So very sad.

The Carter years. That was just too easy. No price controls during Nixon years,. Nixon was fucked up, but the economy wasn't bad.

President Nixon Imposes Wage and Price Controls

August 15, 1971. In a move widely applauded by the public and a fair number
of (but by no means all) economists, President Nixon imposed wage and price
controls. The 90 day freeze was unprecedented in peacetime, but such drastic
measures were thought necessary. Inflation had been raging, exceeding 6%
briefly in 1970 and persisting above 4% in 1971. By the prevailing historical
standards, such inflation rates were thought to be completely intolerable.

The 90 day freeze turned into nearly 1,000 days of measures known as Phases
One, Two, Three, and Four. The initial attempt to dampen inflation by calming
inflationary expectations was a monumental failure.
