Why do you consider it throwing away your vote? I could see if someone wrote in Santa Clause or some shit. That would be throwing away your vote. Have you looked at the Green Party platform and/or Jill Steins? I bet you would agree with damn near everything they stand for. I certainly do.
I will admit that my main motivation for voting for her was that I feel we need a viable 3'rd party in this country. This 2 party system is far too corrupted imo. In order for a 3'rd party to make it on to every ballot across the country, and more importantly in order for them to receive public funding (and really legitimize them) they would have to recieve 5% of the popular vote.
It didn't happen, but that's what I was hoping to achieve, so I didn't consider my vote a waste.
