certain members here claim that cannabis is a "gateway drug".

i am interested in seeing if someone can point out the specific physical properties of cannabis that make a person want to smoke crack.

it's science, right?*

Thats BULLSHIT! Name these members. I've smoked for a good while, never had the urge to try anything else.

Like saying hunting animals doesn't do anything for me, I'm gonna try humans...

Well the logic goes that since marijuana USED to be 100% illegal everywhere, the only people who sold it were gang type drug dealers who were general all around scofflaws and thieves that also dealt in more potent drugs in order to secure a customer base. So you bought your weed from the dude south of the train tracks on the corner of Jefferson and Washington, who also just happened to deal in prostitution, heroine, cocaine and illegal firearms. Just like the amusement park is a gateway for clowns and clown phobias.

his name is poptech, and he totally deals in science.

pretty much exactly. correlation is not causation.

Gateways don't do drugs dude.

yes they do, dude.

I personally think that any "gateway" effect is due to the prohibition of weed. People try it and go "Oh, this is great!", then it plants that seed of wonder for other drugs. I'm not going to lie, I only tried meth and opiates because I started smoking weed and realized that just because a drug is illegal, that doesn't make it not fun. To be fair, I am an unusually curious person, so my situation may not be the norm. I wouldn't say that smoking weed gives you a compulsion to try the "hard drugs" though, that still comes down to a totally willful choice. I tried other drugs because weed made me realize that mind altering substances of all kinds can be fun, in moderation. It never made me feel a need to pick up a crack pipe in and of itself though. Post some links so the rest of us can mock the jackassery of these folks.

it's not folks, it's one member, poptech.

and he thinks he has the restof the scientific community cornered.

you can google for his website, populartechnology. i won't link it.

You can't argue with 100% propaganda, all you can do is shit on it and walk away laughing.

Gatway theory, bwahahahahaha. How did that ever get sold, that pot has some magic in it that makes you want coke or heroin, etc? I could see the funyuns and fruity pebbles being tossed in there, but other drugs, really?

You seem dirty you got punked in the AGW thread.

your own words about his "science": "THAT'S BULLSHIT!"

the same "scientific" mindset that brings you cannabis as a gateway drug is also opposed to the overwhelming consensus of every last scientific group in the world, everywhere.

you sure you're not doublestandarding here?

Yeah bullshit in response to a "Gateway Drug" the O/P mentioned nothing re: AGW

I'm definitely not double-parked...

the same guy who believes in the gateway effect believes he has one up on the global scientific community, and you share his views on the latter.

in matters of science, i defer to the global scientific community consistently.

that's gotta be pretty embarrassing for you, no?

While he may be misguided on Pot, he's shown an abililty to think for himself & question conventional thinking.

All the great scientists of the last 200' odd years questioned conventional thinking, if they hadn't, society & technology wouldn't have progressed - I'm not implying PTs a scientist.

I question the science & motivations of the Global Warming Alarmists. I can't blindly believe what the mass media says and sticking my head in the sand, or reporting it as spam, doesn't make it so. You were spouting talking points & punch lines, much like pressing buttons blindly on a sampler. Your answers were vague and repetative, without anything but your opinion to back it up. I though african americans had access to education nowdays?

For the sake of pointing out the elephant in the room, does that part of your statement not seem a bit contradictory?

How many out there in the mainstream think pot is gateway drug? A good percentage I'd say. Does that negate every statement made by the individual on the basis of their views on mj?

When you say they display the ability to think for themselves and employ critical thinking skills? Yes, very much so. If you have critical thinking skills in the least, ad populum arguments should be an immediate red flag.
