we never get complaints about heating because we turn on the heating systems and make sure they work. you should try it

Real businesses do maintenance to prevent failures. Even in SoCal, you can't let the heat go out and for what? Delayed maintenance doesn't save you money, its a deferred cost and often costs more once the system fails. What you describe is why I hate landlords. .

Obviously, everything is on scheduled maintenance and boilers are serviced regularly. We usually have problems right after they get serviced in fact. But again, old buildings with small budgets, welcome to the world of rural development. What I describe is reality that people like you don’t understand and blame landlords for.

Cruelty? Lol, you boys are funny. Heat goes out we call the contractor. Normally they can get it repaired quickly, sometimes not. In rare cases we have to supply electric heaters for a day or 2 and comp the electric bill. What’s cruel about that? You sound a lot like some of my tenants. They pay anywhere from zero to a few hundred bucks in rent and yet expect instant service for anything like they are living in the ritz. Again, entitled people.
