This is my build for the lettuce competition.

I like to use 5 gallon buckets when building this stuff. I had a lot left over from RDWC. I also like to use these concrete mixing tubs. I rummaged through all of my crap and put this thing together. It's a flood and drain. I didn't have as much hydroton as I thought I did, so I used a touch of perlite. If this will keep perlite out, hydroton will be no problem.
It takes 56 seconds to fill and overflow. At overflow it holds 5 gallons. It then takes 5:54 to drain completely. So I have some messing around to do with timers. I'm thinking of starting with 1 on 15 off.
The bottom has about 8 gallons in it. I made it so that res changes would be a breeze. I fill at the main drain.

Popped these in water last night. Sank today, so using up some old peat plugs. Looking forward to these, they are supposed to be heavy indica hitters.

I have some burn on the runt. She's shaking it off though it looks like. I might have hit the leaves hand feeding.

Putting the finishing touches on my watering and drain system for each tent. I'm going fully automated watering. I was before but had no drains. This is going to work a lot better for me.
I'm doing three tubs this way. After the competition tent is done I can loop the two 4x4's together for comparisons grows. This table thing is what is left over of my shelves I had in the garage and moved downstairs. I had to cut the bottom off to get it to fit in the basement, this is the scrap.

This is my old drain from the RDWC days. I'm tapping into it and going to use it for the feed.

I put some water in to find out where to put the drain.

I will hook all of the drains together when I am done. This one goes to the competition tent for now, and they are thirsty so I'm getting this one done for them real quick.

If you get the thickwall 600psi PVC, the I.D. is just the right size for a 3/8 hose barb.IMG_20190620_144925.jpg

I had to press it on there really hard it popped on and isn't coming off.IMG_20190620_145001.jpg MVIMG_20190620_151430.jpg IMG_20190620_152921.jpg

I wondered how much would be left in the tub when I did a drain. This will work for me!IMG_20190620_155934.jpg

I measured it out. If I fill it up to here each time it is 14 gallons.IMG_20190620_160740.jpg

Since the tub is higher than the water level in the tent, I didn't want it to siphon after the pump turned off. This little hole right after the pump does the trick.MVIMG_20190620_162356.jpg

Valve outside the tent to control flow. Pump is on a timer with 1 minute adjustments. Just have to play around with it to dial it in. 3 minutes with the valve half open to fill the sips. I'll just leave it there until this run is over. Right now the tent is drinking 3gal a day so the tub should only need to be filled every 4 days or so. Perfect timing to get a new batch of fresh water. I can always tell when a tub is out because the pumps suck air and make a surging noise. IMG_20190620_161219.jpg
