ProMix

Anyone familiar with promix? I currently use Roots organic, I love it. However I have to drive to the next county to get it. I just found out a store locally sells promix. Is it worth the drive or should I switch to promix?

Works good for me. No phing needed which is nice. If you get the bx I recommend adding in some extra perlite.

The main tip I have is make sure you grab bales without holes or taped over holes in them.

Been using Pro Mix BX for years. pH your water and feeds and you are good.

I use promix organic vegetable & herb or HP or BX they all work wonders. I still recommend phing your water.

I worked for one of the large medicinal companies and all they used was promix hp. I've been using it myself for years too I haven't tried anything else though never felt the reason to.

is promix good for seedlings and big plants? That’s why I like the roots because I can use it from start to finish

I've used promix since 2012. No issues. Cheap

I use the promix seedling starter for my seedlings. Very good. No issues.

I clone in those little expanding peat pellets just because they stay wet but as soon as roots start showing through the pellets I put them in promix hp and use that soil till harvest no problems. With 5 gallon fabric pots this soil dries out in 4 days or so.

What about the finished product? I know miracle Gro can make the finished product brown, anybody got any photos of finished product from promix? I’ve never use miracle grow I’ve just heard horror stories and the roots organic always turns out very nice so I just don’t want to lose that but I’ve heard nothing but good things about pro mix so far

it will be very different from roots organic.

promix is inert, it will be up to you to make sure the plants are getting the proper amounts of all nutrients at all stages of life.

roots is more fool proof.

also the cost difference is marginal, $35 for 3cuft of pro mix or 20 for 1.5cuft of roots around here. easily made up for in the cost of nutrients u save with roots. i've used both and i think its easier to get high quality buds in soil than soilless, but thats ultimately down to the grower. to be honest i'd 100% stick with the roots unless the drive is really a bother for you.

Not finished. In fact just stating week 3 in flower. Forgive the light. Using cheap Jungle Juice doing Lucas Formula with pH around 6. No burn. No deficiencies. Easy and cheap.

$23@gallon for JJ.

I'm not sure about the brown comment. I've actually grown in miracle grow. But they use a lot of sticks etc in the mix I've used. Some plants ends up purple sometimes. Some golden. I had a chocolate strain that was so dark purple it looked black. And tasted like chocolate. I guess the nutrients determine that mostly. Or lack of sometimes.

The thing I love about promix is the low maintenance, I use bx and I only have to water every 4-7 days depending on maturity, never had an issue with ph, nute lock, nute burn, feed them every other watering and have nice healthy plants, my yields are suffering (8 oz from a 4×4 tent) but the quality of smoke is bang on.

What do you think is causing the yield issue

I am not even sure how Pro mix is being compared to miracle grow lol


It is like anything grow related, it all depends on the person and what they know/are comfortable with. I have seen all methods and mediums produce well.

Many things, fresh air flow, lighting, and less nutes than they should be getting, it can be 2 weeks in between feedings but I honestly don't know how I could give them any less water they get 4 liters each in 7 gallon bags.

For each 3.8 cu.ft bail, I add a 2 cu. ft of perlite and 2 1/2 cups of dolomitic lime. I also pH fertilized water to to 6.2-6.3. I find I need to add 5ml-10ml of Cal/Mag since I use r.o. water too. I grow in 4 gallon pots, water every 2-3 days.
