air movment in grow room and filter question

if im sucking air out of my grow tent will it always go though the carbon filter even if its a low amount of air movement

can you use inline fans with carbon filters

if my filter is bigger then the cfm fan rating is that bad

Yes unless there are leaks in the connection of the ductwork to the filter / fan where unfiltered air can sneak in.

Yes, thats what they are meant for. Use the blower to suck air through the filter.

That is actually good. If the fan is too big for the filter then it can pull air through faster than the filter can clean it up. Filters have two CFM ratings, one for exhaust and one for scrubbing. The scrubbing CFM rating is higher because the filtration isn't single pass.

so lower cfm is better for exhaust

Higher will typically be better than lower, though there is such a thing as too much.

CFM is Cubic Feet per Minute, which is a measurement of how much cubic feet of air can be moved through the room in a single minute. So the higher the CFM, the more air being moved through the room in a single minute. A higher CFM is especially good, because the carbon filter will restrict some of the airflow. So a ~700cfm fan will only be around ~500cfm with a carbon filter. Similar to an air filter in your car in the sense that it restricts airflow.

I'm using an 8in inline fan in my 4x4 tent personally. If for some odd reason that ends up being too much airflow for you, then a fan controller can be purchased to remedy that.

i have the option of setting my fan /filter in set up 2 or set up 4. out of them two option what would be best and why also whats the down side to running them configurations

I use configuration #4 and have never had an issue, it is the easiest to setup and take down and I was always paranoid about the fan and filter falling on the plants, yes it is less efficient than putting the filter first but I only have a 4" inline fan in my 4×4 and the setup works fine.

#2. Pro. Ducting and fan stay much cleaner. The filter catches the particulate.

#4. Pro. Less clutter in tent.

i guess ill go with 2 as i don't like cleaning my fans all that often

#2 do i have less chance of smells getting out if i run the filter inside the grow space eve if the fan is on the out side or would you say same risk as # 4 due to leaks in ducking or seals. id imagine 4 would be the most likely to leak air as it in push over pull

If you "scrub" the air of odor inside the tent with a combo like this.....you may not need a filter on the exhaust. You would still need an exhaust fan.

You are better to have your fan In the tent, then if it pulls slightly more than the filter can handle, it won't be leaking and smelling outside the tent. I've always run #1
