Police across the UK are given green light to let cannabis users off scot-free and suggest they get treatment instead of punishment

Police forces across the country were yesterday given the green light to stop arresting cannabis users.
Individual chief constables can now decide whether to arrest and charge, caution or warn those caught with the drug – or simply let them go.
The softening of approach was announced by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the body that develops nationwide operational policies.
The organisation’s spokesman on drugs, Cleveland assistant chief constable Jason Harwin, said that asking cannabis users to go for treatment rather than prosecuting them could prevent re-offending and provide the ‘best outcome’.

arresting someone for smoking cannabis is a joke. if they are selling or pushing it on kids fair enough arrest them
i still find it stupid that i can legally buy cigarettes and many over the counter pharmacy drugs that are far worse then cannabis
good call by the police though but i dont see treatment is a needed thing but on saying that i could not stop smoking cannabis with out a really good reason to

I quit due to unrelated medical issues about a month ago. I was out until my next cycle and was gone for that month. With no smoke for the last 6 weeks I had zero withdrawal. I don't drink or smoke cigarettes. I know zero people who sell. I guess I should have checked into rehab....

How much you wanna bet if you're black or brown you'll still get hauled in. Giving cops the discretion to choose who gets off Scot-free is just another way to let them profile and harass those that are OTC. (Other Than Caucasian)

It's some improvement but not much.
