Good Stuff!
I'm with you on most all of it.
On piece I'm not sure we agree on from your 1st post.

The leaves lose their color because the plant use its stored nutrients and starches and it usually happens on the older bottom leaves first. Plants do this anyway when older leaves do not contribute to new growth anymore. They hate to waste things so before they get rid of it they pull out all the good things.

I do not agree with the bolded sentence.
This type of thing gets debated and good growers are on each side of this argument.
Just like good growers are on each side of a dozen other debates lol.

This is just my opinion no science.
I believe the plant will keep that lowest leaf if she can in case of a drought.
If there was a drought the leaf you say she no longer needs is the very 1st leaf she would sacrifice to keep the rest of the plant as healthy as she can.
If that leaf wasn't there she would have to steal from another leaf.
She doesn't know how long a drought will last so my guess is if she could keep it for emergencies she would.
When I say she I mean mother nature who is much smarter than we are. :)
If so, why do not trees have leaves down to the ground? I think that the plant throws off the old leaves which no longer get enough light. Insert a side light and illuminate the bottom area and you will find much less yellow leaves.
Dry stress in just another reason to reduce the number of leaves. I usually do not let my pots dry out and feed them enough nitrogen but I keep getting yellowed leaves below my canopy.
If you look on the 3 plants in my cab No.1 in the center looks green down to the bottom, No.2 and 3 getting no side light and they already throw off yellow leaves near the bottom. And I've them transplanted in bigger 1gal pots and feed them twice as much of the same nute mix No1 gets... 850ppms PH ~6.
No3 still doing well.jpg

An also the bottom leaves on No.2 have begon to show discoloration..
No2 too.jpg

Only my No1 in the middle gets enough side light and as you can see no yellow bottom leaves till now. I'm pretty sure she will throw off a few of these bottom leaves later too.. also with side light, always enough water and sufficient amounts of nutes. You can delay it but there is no way to avoid it.

@Thegermling
I've added "Mash" to the cup in the meantime.
No chance to kick me out ..

We will just have to disagree on this.
Not sure I would use a tree to compare to a plant.

I have grown indicas in the past untopped that were green and healthy down to the 2nd set of original leaves at harvest. I have pictures of it somewhere.

I have a plant real time that is 5' 6" tall from the soil line that has lost a few lower leaves but I believe if I kept it healthier I would have had more healthy lower leaves.

There are solid growers on each side of this argument but it's not going to be resolved any time soon.

My goal as a grower is to keep them as healthy as possible till harvest.
I'm comfortable with the growers I have in my corner on this one.

Not sure if this is a useful example but I'll post recent pics.
I probably have better example in my files.

Taken when the word was stripped no side lighting.

Taken Tuesday.

Taken yesterday. No side lighting.
Like I said. the lower leaves are not perfect but I feel they could have been much better if kept happier.

Thats not it. I only like to think that I follow the "no exception rule." Even though theres been many. It is what it is.
@Boatguy is out. @whytewidow missed last weeks update.

Yeah, but do not forget that there was no word of the week from "official side". Dawg said nothin' and the whole mash thing came up with Sunni's comment last week.
So it is more or less voluntary to use "mash" this week ..

Dawg hasnt given the word in two weeks. 2 weeks ago we all agreed on done, last week everyone went with mash.
I hope he gives us a word this week or well have to come up with another one.
Does anybody care if this weeks word is "Karma."
