Just wanted to show that cfl grows aren't so bad

In an act of stubbornness
No... more of an act of encouragement. That growing weed isn't hard. That anyone can do it, with basic shit everyone has around the house. Before I started I thought u needed all that expensive shit( hps, mh bulbs, reflectors, exhaust, etc. ) so I never tried it when I was younger even tho I always wanted. Granted you'll end up with better outcome with hid lighting but for your everyday stoner, who just wants some free nug, it's not necessary.
I guess u could say it was stubborness cuz someone told me I wouldn't get more then an oz with those dinky little lights, n I said it's more about how u train the plant, so I had to show them what was up. That it depends almost as much as stress training as it does lighting on how much you will end up with. At least that's my opinion. Your entitled to your own tho.

Encouraging people to use CFL is just stupid. For a while, CFL made sense for people that couldn't risk shopping anywhere other than a normal hardware store. Now you can get superior LED lights at the hardware store. LED is better in every way: more light for the same electricity, vastly better ppf maintenance, less bulk, less mercury, less heat, etc...

This forum is full of successful CFL grows from 5+ years ago when CFL was relevant. Their ability to grow Cannabis has never been in dispute and further demonstrations are redundant.

Well since current run still in week 5, have gone back to jars
from a couple years ago of a CFL grow found on this forum.
They were good for the time and through the process of doing
a DIY project(s) for Vero cobs and beyond...

The point... the buds were very light compared to the later LED runs.
Still do the job but LED delivers frost and dense. Can't compare the
two - watt for watt - just what gets by until better comes along...

nice job, good looking plants.
that being said, it does seem a little futile. cfls will grow weed, but t5's are an order of magnitude better, and leds and hids are an order of magnitude beyond that.....
if you're just starting out, you can get decent results with what you have on hand, but i don't know anyone whose started with cfls and stayed there past the first run or two. for a reason.

the new ones beyond the cfl's now and day, and from what i've found are the LED bulbs. I ran CFL's for years infact i have a grow on here with them, and i have a grow with a combo of CFL and LED bulbs on here too....it's just a matter of how's you walllet is and where you wanna start.....in the beginning i love starting people with CFL's cause simply you can buy them from your local market and hardware stores, now the tech is changing into LED bulbs which work as well.....

still a killer grow this guy has got......

nice job again...

That's what I did in my first grow, cfls, blurpie type light, then qb288 135w kit... Got me this... Cfls got me started though... IMG_20180625_213604.jpg

I have a dual spectrum CFL light and so far i prefer it to MH/HPS because of the heat. First I grew local seed and it was shit. Bought some seeds online and they smell like our local hydro which is inbred incested shit. Ppl just want to get stoned but educating ppl down here is a huge challenge. Will post pic updates asap, loveing these photos on this site..

Simple good job ...
No bashing on grow , we ALL started somewhere.
That bagger seed is looking pretty good

Suggestion ... surround lowers with more bulbs to light up the smaller buds , it won’t blow up much at least get them mature.

Keep us posted.

Im having hell keeping stable temps with cfl. Im unsure what I want to use. I could do LED grow light bulbs mixed with my T5 for supplement lighting on the side. Still waiting on my inline duct booster fan. To help push airflow through my inline duct booster fan. Because a lot of lumens are lost with LED grow light panels. An I think light bulbs will be able to get closer to the plant an use more lumens.

It's not stupid, and risk wasn't/isn't the only reason for using CFL. It's a great entry point for a beginner and/or someone with little money and/or space. It allows those people to have their first try at growing without wasting a lot of money if they decide it's not worth it. Of course other lighting methods can produce better yields, but at a cost which may prove prohibitive to some. Anything that encourages people to join the hobby is a good thing.

Looks good op, I’d be happy with that. Pretty crazy how many people like to talk shit about cfls, I’m starting my first grow with them and feeling pretty optimistic.
I’ve grown under a 400watt mh/hps setup before with less than awesome results, there is only so much you can do with a single light shining straight down no matter how strong it is you are wasting a lot of energy.
I am growing legally now in the attic of my shed in the middle of a Michigan winter (my wife is not supportive) so I went with cfls for the very minor heat boost compared to led’s. With my ghetto trash can with a heat lamp in it and a computer fan main heat source, and a backup space heater I keep the insulated hidden area of my grow room about 70degrees so the little bit of extra heat is worth it for me until I can grow outdoors.

I get 4 23 watt bulbs for $10, 4 2 wire bulb sockets for $12, and I use spare wire and a $2 male outlet adapter to hook my lights up to a 2’x1’ hood I make out of a roll of aluminum I happened to have laying around that is pre painted flat white.
Doing one feminized helio ogk that just sprouted today so I only have 3 bulbs on it with the hood I made. I plan on having 3 hoods hung sideways or horizontal if you will to cover the sides of the plant and surround it. Not sure if I will do 3 or 4 bulbs per hood depends how tall it gets but left room for a fourth bulb just in case.
