It doesn't matter. There isn't 37% worth of differences. Vivosun 1000w ballast, 1000w Eye Hortilux HPS bulb, 6" Blockbuster reflector. I created the chart with the PAR map they provided.

It doesn't matter? I've seen cheap ballasts draw 1275w ......... I've also seen the differences between ppfd charts in open spaces vs reflective walls and floor(tent), significant.
Also seen discrepancy between meters apogee, licor, etc.
Also seen people get lazy and half ass plot points, lol
Also seen the sphere #s (ppf/w)of a quality se 1000w thouie & hlg 550...... says your wrong or hlg is lying about results.

They'll drag my ass into court so fast I wouldn't know which way was up, and they would be right to do so. If "Jerry" from Kingbrite had one fucking ounce of integrity he would stop calling the boards he is hawking on Alibaba "Quantum Boards", and come up with his own branding for them.

Just looking at the total PPF numbers, I have to say I agree - the HLG-550 does not adequately replace a 1000W HPS. The Philips Agrolite bulb is rated for 1850 Umols/s total PPF. Even after 15% for reflector losses its still over 1570 uMols/s. The HLG 550 is only 1160 uMols. It sits in the middle between the 600W HPS, and the 1000W. Add two more boards and kick the wattage up to 700 and you're at 1000W light levels.

When I placed the order we were planning on doing 2x 4x8 rooms and we ended up doing a 10x10 tent instead so I may need 4 more.
I have 4x 320-C2800B drivers each running 4 boards. Goal is to pick up a 480 when I can afford to and drop it to 3 per 320 and 4 on each 480. The supplier I went with didnt have any 480s in stock when I ordered. So I may be a little bit under powered for my first grow with them.. But ive also read about a lot of people that dont push them above 50% so idk we'll see

I think its really funny how much people focus on 'PPF' as if that can help them figure any of this out. PPF is for efficiency, PPFD is to see if your diodes are arranged properly and producing proper photon uniformity. Lower efficiency diodes in a proper design trumps highly efficient diodes in designs like the ones HLG produces.
I gave you the name of the ballast I used. I have not measured its power draw. I think we're grasping a bit though since that ballast is pretty well reviewed. Do you have an issue with the SQ-500 from Apogee?
So what is their brand? The design? What even is the design? 4 boards on a metal slate? If they didn't invent the diodes, its not their technology, and they are just going to have to deal with people selling it for half the price. You can try to configure quantum boards in any fashion you wish. Properly arrange a combination of strips and COBs, and you will see the future.

Like nf said if you took someone's design which has technical drawings copied it and marketed it with the same or similar name then yes that if fucked. Nike didn't invent rubber or the idea of a shoe, so anyone copying their design is free and clear?
They sell a brand, and everyone is welcome to sell shoes. But if you were to make Nikee's with shoes that look like Nike you will definitely be court ordered to stop all sales until you change some key factors. Jerry is a smart guy, but a shitty businessman. And so goes for anyone taking HLG's design and marketing it as a quantum board.

But to totally hack his version and blatantly LABELS his only dilutes their name and reputation . Say these doppelgängers are sporting sub B stock rejects ( LEDs that did not pass quality or spec testing ) on boards labeled as the REAL DEAL , and someone " believing these to be the " same " brand , can bring bad business drama to the original company . Word of mouth is a MF ....... A bunch of fuckers can complain their chow mein QUANTUMS are poor quality or have voltage issues or thinner board than original for cheap copying.
There is ZERO REASON , Jerry to label " his " as HLG BRANDING.
Maybe you feel good getting a " ROLUX " instead of a real Rolex for $15 , I don't.
Dumbfuck could have easily called the DIM SUM BOARDS , BUBBLE LOVE GROW BOARDS , SWAP MEET BOARDS , or HO WE FUK BOARDS.
HLG should make an example ... Go for the wallet , get more cash from a dumbass and put into more R & D !

It that not obvious? Their "brand" is a Samsung diode based small footprint board sold under the TRADE NAME "Quantum Board". Just like the "Air Jordan" is a sports shoe sold under that trade name. There are a bunch of other guys selling similar boards but they call them "Sunboards", "Wavy boards" or other such names. They are not doing anything wrong. Thats perfectly fine to imitate a popular product - its when you not only copy a popular product, but steal the name as well, thats stepping over the line into shitty business practices.

I'm not supporting them taking the name. I'm saying who cares? They built their name off a sham marketing strategy. I don't respect that type of business practice, so I don't give a shit if China does what they're doing now. Why respect a name built off a lie? I'm arguing that the design itself is poor, and that it can be proven with science that their '1000w HID replacement' absolutely cannot replace a 1000w HPS.
Yeah, its shitty business practices, but its China; what do you expect? Are we really complaining about Chinese business practice right now as if that's going to change? You manufacture your product in China with technology you didn't create, you don't have any patents, they start selling your design. This will happen every single time a successful product is handled in this fashion. No point in not being realistic. Those KingBrite QBs are probably the exact same thing, but regardless, my point is that they don't live up to their claims.
China isn't going to change. HLG handed it to them. Product isn't what they say it is anyways...All I'm saying.
