Seedling questions

hey everyone,
I have a 600w mh bulb for veg, and a 1000w hps bulb for flowering.
Obviously you can’t run seedlings under these bulbs so I’m thinking about getting a new light just for seedling use. Anyone got suggestions on the “best” light from seed to veg?
Any info helps as I’m new to growing, Thanks.

I run a 1000 watt bulb for seeds... why do you think you cant? Just raise it up like 4 ft, they actually love it.

CFL bulbs or a little LED panel will work fine. You can put seedlings under the lights you have, you just need to raise them so it's not too intense. If you put seedlings under an HPS they will stretch a bit as well.

Just typing the same thing as above.

I type slow LOL because another responce came through already.

You will get a range of answers on a light that is more efficient but I have used a 600w MH often for seedlings you just have to have the light further away for them to be happy.

How many feet above? And think is a dumb question but does this go with autos as well?

There's actually less stretch with hps than there is with mh, and that's why I use hps to veg.
Hps builds leaf and bud, mh builds stem, is a basic way of looking at it. They both do both obviously..

I've vegged with HPS as well, however I noticed a bit of stretch versus MH.

As stated above 30" is good.
My preference is to start at 36" and then lower it to 24" slowly over the next 7 days give or take. Different plants and environments will change what works best for each grower.

If you have healthy happy seedlings with good looking leaves, you will know if you are moving the light to close if you have signs of stress. Check out some heat stressed seedlings using google search.

Here is one link.

Seedlings will do OK under a 600W bulb. I would put them farter from the bulb than you would an older plant. Try not to leave new seedlings directly under a bulb.

Good luck, BigSteve.
