I grew a basil plant last summer which did great, but the rosemary did not do well, so I want to try again.

I just bought 4 herb seedlings from Home Depot (sitting on the cookie sheet) ...need to get some pots & soil
  • Rosemary - bottom right
  • Basil - bottom left
  • Chives - mid left
  • Habanero Orange - mid right
  • Aloe Vera seedling (from a friend) top centre

Yeah, that's my worry as I only get about 6 hours max of direct sunshine.

I transplanted them recently, but used a cactus soil then mixed it with sand for the Rosemary, so we will see how it does.

The Basil is doing great, but that's an easy plant to grow.

The Chives are doing okay, but the Habanero is not progressing much.....could also be the lack of decent sunshine and/or heat (it's not been a nice spring)

I never had any luck with indoor herb gardens, my house just isn't oriented to the sun in a good way. Summer is really hot and humid, so if I pick a good spot my herbs do ok but if if I build a new bed it's a crap shoot.

My habaneros do good in clay soil, the Basel will grow almost anywhere if I water enough.

I've been trying to improve my fruit trees and vines for about three years now and I'm doing pretty good but the late cold snap killed the plums.

Good luck bro.

My Basil plant is doing some weird stuff....about 2 weeks ago I transplanted my plants into bigger pots....since then the Basil started with these shoots with tiny leaves, then started to produce little white flowers.

Seems a bit early in the year to be going to flower, as the days are still getting longer...go figure

the Habanero pepper is on the right

I'm surprized how good the Rosemary is doing consider the previous 2 attempts were failures....also the Aloe Vera is coming along okay

The Chives seems to be doing well....I have snipped a few for a garnish

The damn Basil keeps on throwing flowers, so I have started a clone, will see how that goes

The Chives, Aloe Vera and the Habanero Peppers are doing okay

The Rosemary is doing the best of all, and it's the one I was most worried about...go figure
Also beside the Jade plant is the Basil clone

My indoor herb garden has given me mixed results...happy with some, disappointed with others

DSC_0404.JPG

The Basil has been very problematic, which is funny because Basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow.
It keeps on throwing out flowers, I have snipped them off, and cloned a few, but they all revert to flower mode

The chives have done well...I have have used them for a garnish several times, so I'm pleased with it

The Aloe Vera plant was growing slow until I realized it needs plenty of water...it's not a cactus... LOL

Then the Rosemary....this is a plant that failed on me twice before on previous grows, but with advice from a RIU friend, I mixed sand with the soil, and let it go very dry before watering.....it's doing quite well. I'm just not sure if I should be topping it to make it fill out

The habanero plant was growing good but did not produce any peppers....someone said it might be because it didn't get pollinated by bees

Anyhow, I'm considering using my 4.5 x 4.5 x 7 foot tent with a 315 CMH to keep these plants going thru the winter, but not sure how they will do in a grow tent
