Illinois medical marijuana card wait time

“The waiting is the hardest part...”
—-Tom Petty

I think that would make a good theme song for this thread.

I feel really bad for some of the folks on here who got scammed or had problems. I feel like one of the lucky ones in that nothing got screwed up. I went to a private practice in Naperville to do it all for me, and it was like a well-oiled machine. Prints, photo, paperwork...they did it all. My only complaint is the 2-day delay in submitting it all.

Tomorrow I have to go see the doc for my 90-day appt. He told me I probably wouldn’t have my card yet at this first one, and he was right. But I not only got verbal confirmation that I’m at the printer, they sent me an email reply from like 3wks ago telling me the same thing.

First Doc appt: 2/10
Additional certifications: 2/24
Certified: 2/28
Submitted to state: 3/2

81 days so far and my gut feeling is probably next week. Still hoping before June.

For the rest of my life whenever I hear "the waiting is the hardest part" by Tom Petty, I will always think about how slow time went by while waiting for my card which I'm still doing now. I expect to receive it any day as the check was cashed Wednesday May 9th.

Ok, so I need to vent a little. Today I had my first follow-up with the doctor who certified me. He purposely made this appt about 100 days out because he thought by then I’d have my card. His office is an hour and 15mins from me, so going there is no short ride.

I get there, and as soon as I check-in the nurse asked if I had my card. I say not yet, and she says there’s no real point of the follow-up visit until I’ve been to the dispensary at least once. So she told me to call for a new appt after that happens. I spent 2 and a half hours driving today for nothing, and I’m a little annoyed by that. Especially with gas prices going up.

Why is IL so damn slow?! I have a cousin in CA and he got his MMJ card in 12 days. As I sit here writing this I’m on day 82 and in that no-man’s land of “Your card is at the printer”. Why can’t IL print the stupid thing and save us a week or two? So frustrating.

Already got my mail today and nothing yet. So the wait continues. This is crazy. There’s no reason it should take this long unless they’re understaffed, which I’m sure they are. Aggravating for me but for those of you in pain, this is just wrong. No one should have to wait 3-4 months unless something got screwed-up on the app. Mine went thru cleanly and it will be at least 83 days...most likely I’ll be beyond day 90 when it finally comes. WTF takes this long?

Ugh....leave it to IL to make this process more difficult than any other state in the country. I know they’re sending Driver’s Licenses to a printer now too. So, like, is there one card printer in the entire country that does this?

Ok, sorry for the rant. Just a bit pissed right now.:wall:

I got an email reply today telling me my card’s being printed & to expect it in 10-14 days.

Application submitted electronically on 3/11, got a letter last week telling me something was missing, verified last Fri that they had what they need.

We’re moving along...

I feel you. Make sure to make it out to the voting booth in november. That's our only chance at changing this crap.

Mine was filed 02/28 and still nothing. It’s been 84 days as of now and was told all of 90 days when I was finger printed. As the days get closer the waiting gets worse !!! How and who are people contacting to track their progress???

The phone number is early in this thread, like around p4. I found calling around 3:00 got a live answer from a very helpful young man.
The email address and what to send is either in the same post or close to the one with the phone number, but after several emails, today’s was the only one with any real information. Calling was more useful, especially straightening out a paperwork error.

Yeah, I emailed them twice and they actually responded both times. Just search IL Cannabis Application and you’ll find the gov’t website with both the email and the phone number. There’s this huge disclaimer on the site saying they won’t give you status updates, but in my 5 contacts with them they’ve been polite, informative, and helpful.

My card came today! A recap of my timeline:
Feb 12th went to all in one clinic and submitted and filled everything out.
March 11th IDPH received my application online. I received my card in the mail today. 5/23. Exactly 100 days from clinic to card received and 73 days from when IDPH received my application. Medcardclock said I still had 4 days to wait.

Congrats! I’ve already blown past the date Medcardclock gave me, but it’s literally any day now. Unless I get mine on a Saturday, I’m going shopping the very next day. That’s the fun part we’re all waiting for.

Thanks much I will give that a try.
