Hi young BUCK,

It is usually safe to get the most expensive organic soil you can find.. Ideally you want to start with a soil that has a PH of 6.5 - 7.0.

This is the main problem with miracle grow because it starts with a PH of 5.0.

There is a soil called "Black Gold" it is GOD SEND.. I don not belive it is sold at HD.

How is mushroom manuer? I have that mixed in will some vermiculite and potting soil and it seems to be doing okay. I don't have any way of gauging ph, though.

You will need a PH tester.. the link above shows a very inexpensive.. yet VERY good ph tester... it only takes 30 seconds to check the PH of your water.. Checking and adjusting the PH of water is the CORNER STONE of successful gardening.. if you can get one of these tester, Home Depot sells POOL PH TESTERS for 5-8 dollars.. you want the PH of your water to be 6.8

Be careful with vermiculite.. it retains a lot of water and is the down fall of many growers..

Perlite on the other hand is very porous and a great supplement to soil..

: )
cheers

foxfarm ocean forest. it is the shit. everything is in there. just pop the bag, put in a pot, and grow. no need to worry about feeding until 2-3 weeks in. perfect for inside growers.

I prefer ProMix BX.
I have tried some of the miracle gro type mixes with ferts mixed in.
I would only use these if I could not find anything else, as I like to feed my babies as needed!
Back in the '80s I used a blended soilless mix called Tropical blend, can't remember the manufacturer, and I don't know if its made anymore. Anyways....
IMO, all pre blended soil mix should be amended with perlite, and especially Dolomite lime.

From home depot I get the scotts soil. Not the best but the best HD has.
i feel you, thats the soil i resort to now, everything else there sucks. I wish i could go to a store that carried fox farms. none near me do.

I hear a lot of articles saying those 3 nute numers ( like you said 20-15-20) are important in growing... The higher the first number in the beginning of the grow will help better then once you are into in like 8 or so week go to a higher 2nd number... as for the 3rd number i don't know... higher 3rd near harvesting??? lol But I've heard about this and some of my friends do this and they actually are seeing better results and a better smoke if you follow that...

Remember higher 1st number in growing/sprouting
higher 2nd after 8 to 12 weeks into it
and My opinion 3rd higher near harvest.. no one ever says anything about the 3rd number so thats just my guess ha.

Yes, you want a higher N (first number) for vegging, and you want a higher of BOTH of the other numbers for flowering.

You need to stop using nutes all together at least 2 weeks before harvest and let the plants use up the nutes they have stored. This will result in a much smoother, tasty, and even burning buds. Making the plants use up all or most of the stored nutes also helps the drying and curing process. Good Luck!:blsmoke:

I do it like 19 to 20 days before harvest and everything is all good. Drying is average quick and smooth great smelling and tasting bud... You could try around there.

I tried out five different soils and one I mixed up my self on over 100 plants last year, there is two that stood out like no other. Black Gold!! and Fox farm. Black Gold is simply amazing. Stay away from things like super soil and Miracle-Gro. they are over fertilized or something. Get buckets twice as large as you want and more soil than you think you need.

I dont think it was the soil. I think it was the lights.
