First Grow

So I have some extra time on my hands and I thought to myself, "What else do I have to do than make a neatly organized grow journal?" Okay I've posted in the grow journal section before but I'm not a fan so I'm posting this where I think it belongs, Newb Central. Before I start I am going to say I will be saying what brands I am using. I am not a brand ambassador in any way nor am I endorsing any products but I believe it would be helpful to those who are looking for exact information, that and I am trying to be as detailed as possible. So with that out of the way lets begin shall we?

This is from the very beginning. I had purchased a large Girl Scout Cookie mother from a friend and decided to completely chop it down and turn it into clones. I ended up with a pair of prop trays worth but I only needed 9 for my grow so I decided to sell the rest. I'm growing in a 5x5x7 Gorilla Grow tent.

So after a week of cloning under the T5 I took my best 9 and transplanted them into 1 gallon Air-Pots filled with Slacker coco and Growstones. At this point I started a half strength nutrient routine using Sensi Grow and Voodoo Juice. I was also feeding them up to 4 times daily when they were at this stage and reusing the nutrient run off.

15 days after the first transplant I found out I needed to transplant again and place them in their final pots, 7 gallon Air-Pots. I got lazy with feeding everyday so I made a cheap top feed system to water the plants when they were young. I tried doing this once they were in the 7 gallon pots but it did not end up working so I went back to hand feeding. The plants have been getting full strength nutrients for the past week. I also ran out of coco on this day so that's why the last two are still in the 1 gallon pots. It was at this point that I switched from T5 to a 1000 watt metal halide. I am using a Hortilux Platinum ballast with a Hortilux Daylight Blue bulb housed in an 8" Epic reflector by Sun Systems. I had also purchased a small portable 8000 BTU A/C for a decent price on Craigslist and I started using that once the T5 was out.

Days 30-35. Tried to throw in a shitty trellis net for a failed attempted at a scrog, it had no resistance and the plants grew right through it. Growth is looking very healthy at this point and I have been topping weekly since week 2 using the FIM technique, the leaves grew back weird looking but I found out this was normal. I was not pruning any growth up until this point except topping.

Day 41. I should have flowered back at day 35 but I saw a lot of other grows where the veg periods lasted for 2+ months and ended up with plants half the size of these GSC plants, so I waited until my tent was exploding with growth in an attempt to maximize yield, never ever ever do this. The bulb is a 1000 watt Hortilux Super HPS and the nutrients are now Heavy 16 bloom base, Voodoo Juice, Tarantula, Piranha, Bud Ignitor, and Bud Candy.

Day 50, 9th day of flower. So as you can clearly see I had hugely underestimated the size these plants would grow to. I however had no extension so I had to make due. Definitely neglecting my grow and it's showing.

Day 52-53, 11-12th day of flower. Finally purchased a proper nutrient and pH meter. Decided to go with the BlueLab Guardian. I also was fed up with how unattended my grow was looking so I decided to trim all the lower growth. I was surprised to find that all the lower growth which I thought was getting no light was actually very green and healthy so after only 10 days of flowering I tried my hand at cloning a lot of the pruned branches. *Future edit, I ended up getting 60 rooted clones from that*. Plants are looking a lot healthier and I'm trying my hand at decor placement.

I don't know why the attached thumbnails showed up but whatever.

Day 65, 24 days flower. Installed a much needed 1' extension to the tent. Flowers are starting to show nicely. After the second week of flower I stopped using Voodoo Juice, Tarantula, Piranha, and Bud Ignitor and started using Big Bud. I should also mention at this point that I am using RO water and I also need to supplement by using Cal-Mag.

Day 69, 28 days flower. Some of you might have already seen these shots from my HPS glasses thread but I'm throwing it in again. These Method Seven Resistance glasses have been one of the best purchases I have made for my grow.

Day 72, 31 days flower (present day). Okay so today I removed quite a bit of lower growth which was yellow due to receiving no light. Also forgot to mention that I started using CO2 immediately upon flowering. I'm using the Sentinel CPPM-4, I was using the XGC-1e by CAP but I hated how big and bulky it was. The CPPM-4 has a remote CO2 sensor so the unit doesn't have to sit inside my tent and I'm also only using it as a CO2 monitor/controller so I didn't need an entire environmental controller. So I have it all hooked up to a halo around my reflector and a 20 lbs tank that runs at 1250 PPM for 6 hours/day.

I hope you've enjoyed this little journal and reading up on my first grow experience thus far. I will be updating this one fairly often and I've still got 6 weeks left of flower so I hope you all stay tuned for the results. Happy growing.

Plants look good and healthy. Congrats looks like u did a great job. Now all u have to do is do just as good a job drying and curing. Get the best taste out of your plants as possible. Good Luck and Happy Smoking :bigjoint::bigjoint:

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm still looking into exactly how I'm going to be curing but I think I will just hang it all from the ceiling of the tent. I don't plan on starting a new grow anytime in the near future (probably January time frame) so I'll just take down the light, hook up a few extra fans and let them dry out in there. Plus I can use my tent for smoking in (wicked hotbox) until I get my next grow going :D

What I do for drying and curing is when harvest time comes around remove only big stem and fan leafes. Keep sugar leafes on until ready to cure . I run my ac at 65 f and 45% humidity . Dry for 7 days or until stem snaps (in a super dark room ). Then I manicure all the sugar leafes off and extra stem and put into mason jars and burp the jars twice a day for a week and then let them chill I'm the jars for another 3-4 weeks and they will be perfect ! I run my humidity and temp the same as I do for drying as I do curing

Thanks for the input. I haven't been doing much in the way of harvest research but any info is greatly appreciated. I'll try this out when the time comes and I'll post the pictures and process.

love your setup i am planning on something similar. what kind of t5 light is that?
Hey, thanks for the input. The T5 was an old Sunlight Supply Pioneer VIII. I've recently made the switch to a Quantum BadBoy 4 foot 8 bulb. I only use the T5 for very early veg where MH would just burn the babies.

I just wanted to point out that this thread was not made for bragging rights. Yes, I am very proud of my grow because I set my expectations on the moon and put forth a lot of time, effort, and money to make this the grow it is now.

This thread was made to help new growers gain some ideas and answer some questions, but it is to mainly build confidence in their abilities. I'm aware that not everyone has a greenthumb but growing a weed isn't exactly rocket science.

I definitely have RIU and a lot of sites like this one to thank when I first started taking an interest in growing, and if it weren't for the more experienced growers myself and my plants would be in the dark. I feel like I've done enough research and application to where I can now give back and share my advice to other new growers out there, the last thing the world needs is more shitty weed being sold (I know I've bought some in the past). So keep spreading the knowledge guys, you have no idea how much it means to the newb grower :)

Any advice on when I should start lowering temps at night to change the leaf color? I know there is some GDP in the GSC and I see some GSC with purple in it so I'm just wondering when would be the best time to lower night temps to achieve this look.
