WOW!! What in the heck is this? Look at the very last photo, you see that white clump of shit well that was wrapped around my airstone. What is this!!

I had root rot when I was doing DWC, I then cleaned the roots best as possible and switched from DWC to Ebb and Flow, I added 100ML of H202 (35%)

I added nuets on Saturday evening; I added 125ML of Canna A & B and 40 ML of Magical PPM was 1203-1305 I was reducing my PPM to 1002-1005 when I noticed the slime on the top and as I was cleaning it out I moved the airstone and saw a piece of white gunk fall all; I lifted the stone and I saw a thick coat of White Foam wrapped around the stone!!

What can I do? What is this? I'm thinking of emptying res and spraying it down with bleach tmrw and re-fill it up; please give me advice!!!

Hmm what are we thinking? First thing that comes to mind is yeast infection... Should I buy aquasheild or great white?

What do you suggest I use to clean the res? I am picking up Aquasheild tmrw and when I get off work ill clean res, what would you suggest that I use to clean the res?

This foam stuff also is pretty new, didn't see it 24 hours ago.

It's also very thick foam too, when I pulled it off the stone it had a weird texture

I also have no idea what the fuck that is but damn. 69-72 isn't that bad. My res sometimes would get up to 76 but I never seen that. Wish I could help but I really don't have the first idea.

Damn I beleive I got my self something I need to put in a bottle and save, so it must be rare huh?

I'm not dropping any ice bottles in the res until I change the water tmrw. Can anyone give me any advice on what I can use to clean the res with?

Speaking as a microbiologist, a 10% solution of bleach should kill whatever that is (most likely some type of fungi-azotobacter can get kind of slimy in aerobic conditions but is not a fan of the lower temps-and also smells like a wet dog), but I know bleach can leave unwanted residues behind for plants. I would suggest soaking EVERYTHING in a 10% solution of bleach, rinse the holy hell out of everything with RO or at least filtered water then spray with 70% ethanol (isopropanol), wipe down with paper towel and allow it to air dry.

My luck seems to be really bad lately.... I'd stay away from bleach only because of my luck.

Could I use a strong dosage of h202 that's 50\50 % of 35% h202

If it is a fungus then H2O2 should work, but if it is a bacterium, there is a good chance it makes an enzyme called catalase which effectively degrades H2O2 into water and oxygen. The 70% ethanol has a broader range of disinfectant ability and should also completely evaporate without a residue. Regardless-the H2O2 wouldn't hurt and if it doesn't clear up you could try the ethanol.

Ill try both -- should I add aquasheild or great white or both?

I want to get rid of this and never have the issue again.

Either of these additives should help in reducing the risk of re-colonization of your res but without knowing the source of the contamination, you run the risk re-introducing the slime. If you use either the AS or GW, you could treat your water 2 days before you added it to your res with H2O2, that way you reduce the contaminants added to the system and the H2O2 has time to degrade so as not to harm the beneficial organisms in the additives. There is no need to use both AS and GW, one should be sufficient.

Make sure to run the ethanol thru all your tubing and pumps. Take apart the pump if you can and make sure there isn't any slime hiding in there too. If it is bacteria that has formed a biofilm, simple soaking will not get rid of it. You will have to scrub it. That includes the inside of the pump. They are tricky little bastards!

its got to be some sort of fungus or alga, could be good for plant life or bad... who effinging knows, although if i had a hydro grow, i would not want it in my tank. I dont know how people clean tanks cause i have never had a hydro grow, but i would assume bleach or something, whatever it is , get it the fuck out of there. good luck!

sorry i could not really be of help, the people before me are much better to listen to, i just wanted to chime in and let you know people are trying to help.

Looks like someone has been loving there plants a little to much. lols add some H2O2 to your res and don't be afraid to change your water.
