Interest in Growing

I'm currently seriously looking into growing out of my closet. I've read quite a few threads and there's just so much here it's kind of hard to find a place to start! The space I'm working with is 2'x7.5'x8' or 120 cubic feet. I'm concerned about the depth of the closet, only being 2' I have always been under the impression isn't much. Although, I'm sure someone here will tell me I'm wrong. I'm kind of looking to get best possible end product with my setup and the highest yield possible. I currently am unemployed and am up to the job. My only concerns are really the smell and size of the closet. It's in a secure location. I guess what I want to know is what I can realistically expect with the hand I'm dealt here I suppose haha. Start up funds aren't really an issue, as long as it pays for itself!

o boy o boy...:) new grower awesome!
you can totally grow in there. My first grow was a 2x4x 7 closet. I fit 4 full grown plants in there.

Okay, what you are gonna need:

Exhaust fan $60-$100

Carbon filter(takes care of smell)$50-$75

humidity monitor $7-$12

Nutrients $40- the sky's the limit(I suggest you don't get into all the bullshit regarding nutes and which ones work better than this one because they ALL say they are the best, may i recommend jacks classic. Cheap and very effective, perfect for cannabis)

Hps grow light or cfl's or led $130-$400( a simple 400 or 600 watt hps would be great, and will produce the largest buds)

Pots(I suggest 3-5 gal pots)

soil(i suggest you mix in 2-4 cups diatomaceous earth to every 1 cu ft of soil) this will prevent any bugs from living in your soil, but it really isnt nessecery

small fan(circulating fan)

you MAY need to purchase a dehumidifer(if there is too much moisture in there air/humidity is to high) you can buy one for $135, if you look for a good deal

these things will cost you at least $400 total, my first grow i spent like $500

Hey man! Awesome response! With that being said, what are some strains you might recommend? I'd prefer some very dense nugs and I'd like to be able to fit 5-6 plants in my closet. Humidity shouldn't be a problem this time of the year, it's very dry still. Perhaps more towards the spring. It's just all still new to me, and I don't want to mess it up ya know! I can follow directions easily enough, and I think I'd get the hang of it all very quickly!

Just browsing some seed banks and I've come up with a list here. Give me some feedback if you have any on the strains and if you do not recommend a beginner to grow it and or if it's not a at all great lol.

http://www.marijuana-seeds.nl/ice.html This sounds ideal, small to medium sized plant, high yielder.

Also, anything on this seed bank? Prices aren't too bad.

Furthermore I have questions about how to hang the light fixtures. I've read somewhere that the lights should be 18-22 inches from the plant. I'm planning on layering the room in foylon or mylar, so in a 7.5' long room how would I hang my lights :X And how many would I want to have? For lights I can honestly go all out, I want to maximize my available space. I guess I'm just having a hard time imagining how the lights would work. I understand many people use a chain, and I can see that, but I'm not sure what light I should have and how to mount it. I was picturing a long bulb but I dunno if that's the best course of action. Any input here?

That OG Kush looks like fun....and their model is hot!! :0)

As to how far the lights should be from the plants, it depends on
the lights and the plants.

You can put CFLs pretty much right on top of the plants.

I keep my 600W HPS about 12-18" away from my plants,
but that is too close for that light if working with young plants.

Good luck,

JD

Haha seriously! I guess I'm just stumped as to how much lights, and what wattage I'll want for them. If I were to purchase 600W HPS bulb's would I need multiple? Is there such thing as too much?

No, don't use that seedbank.

Go to Attitude's or Sannie's or a couple others people will recommend like hempdepot.

If you order from Attitudes March 1-4th you will hit their birthday promo and you can get some pretty good freebies.

Dude, you need to start reading online.....any attempt by anyone
else to lay out a full on plan will have to make too many assumption
on your part.

I got a tent, a ducted 600W lamp, ducting, a 6" inline fan, a HPS and MH HID bulb,
and I built a carbon filter.

Do all of these things, buy a few auto-flowering female seeds through attitude and
in two months you will have excellent smoke.

....but really, you need to just do a lot of reading, here and elsewhere. Watch
the Cervantes videos. (theres a good idea)

Take care,

JD

I am not a big fan of Barney's Farm personally.

I would suggest a new grower to check out Female Seeds Co.
They have very solid strains that are generally easy to grow. You will like pretty much anything you get and they will be female plants, you dont have to pick out the males.

get a tent bro--- best option possible..

dont need necessarily
Carbon filter-
intake fan
humidfier
or ph meter

DO buy-
MH and HPS for lights
fan hood that sucks out air across the light
i-2 small oscillating fan
good bud soil
nutes
ducting
surge protectors

then of course you need to figure out how to water them and drain . how much to feed not feed... etc etc..... too much to say

You absolutely need a carbon filter, that guy is mistaken.
8' width or height?
Do you want a veg area? (you probably do, it does not have to be big, just light proof))
sog?
soil?

You don't want a tent for a closet.
With that space you might want to go with 2-3 400 watt lights depending on if you want a veg area.
6" cooled reflectors should work.
A tall boy 6" carbon filter fan combo should cover that space. I like http://www.htgsupply.com/

for destink I recommend buying one 6" tall boy for inside the closet and getting one more 4" fan filter combo to filter the air going into the closet. This is not necessary, but it will mean your plants get clean air, much less dust on them and it is one more level of destink. When you are harvesting, trust me, you want more than one carbon filter.

Your closet will probably run about 5 degrees warmer than the temp in the room. You should plan on exhausting your grow air into another room for a nice cycle. Cut a hole in the wall.

imo
most new growers over fertilize and/or do something to stress the plant into throwing male flowers
get feminized seeds and do not listen to bullshit about "hermies"

I was thinking about 2 600 watt HPS bulbs horizontally with reflector hoods. As I said earlier, the whole room may very well wind up being covered in Foylon. It's 8' tall, my apologies for my incorrect ordering of lwh. So 7.5' long could that be 7 plants possibly? My only concern is running out of space! I definitely agree on not using a tent though, and I'm not sure on the exact purposes of a veg area tbh. I can easily cut a whole in the back of the wall for an air intake, my only concerns is how I'm going to easily run the exhaust to and be able to arouse no suspicion. I will definitely be running a wall fan planted at one end of the plants to circulate air. I guess my only real dilemma now is how I will run exhaust. It's a second floor closet, with another house immediately next door which kind of sucks. Good thing is my neighbor loves me and would never rat me out. Immediately above my closet is an unfinished attic, but I'd be worried about the smell traveling to my neighbors attic. Granted, I doubt she goes up there very often but still. Any opinions on discreet exhausting?

Exhaust into another room, not outside. Exhausted air will not smell what so ever if you do it right.
Air through a good carbon filter is much cleaner than stepping outside and taking a deep breath.

Love 600 watt hps - 600 club, ftw
2 600 might need a/c in the summer.
You will definitely need cooled reflectors, 6" minimum.

A veg area is so you can get plants ready to put in flower or even keep a mother plant to take clones off of.
It all depends on what you want, how much you want to spend, how much work you want to put in...

You could section off a small area of the closet start plants when the other plants are in flower.

I'm going to be moving in the future and only intend on one harvest, hence why I wish to maximize my space so badly lol. So unless a veg area will significantly increase my yield I don't think it's worth it to me at this point in time. I'm glad to see though that it seems I'm already on the right track. I'm willing to spend a max of $600 but I'd really like to keep it down under $400 if at all possible.

As for the exhaust, would it be feasible to just run it into my attic then directly above? We don't use it and it'd be a discreet location to run it to.

Last question for tonight which I think I've already answered. Auto-flowering, less yield but in a quicker amount of time. Is it actually worth it? I'm fully capable of running the light cycle perfectly, and don't see any real benefit other than the fact that they produce buds so much quicker, which honestly would be great, but not at the sacrifice of yield to me. So unless I have any misconceptions, I think I've answered my own question!

Oh, and would http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-.-GrowBright-Pure-Flow-6-Jr-Carbon-Filter.asp# be an adequate filter? Pretty cheap, has a greater airflow then I really need.

Disregard what I said about the auto-flowering. https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co....ring-northern-lights-x-big-bud/prod_2767.html sounds like an amazing hybrid and a huge quick yield.

You can look at my closet setup...I have a fan sucking air from under the door up through the closet. When lights go off,i put a blanket under the door if i want to turn the bedroom light on.My house does not smell.........a lot!.......its very minimal, nothing a few plug in air fresheners don't take care of, my wife has candles lit all the time anyway.Any? ???????.:)Photo02210805.jpgPhoto02210808.jpgPhoto02210809.jpg
