would i need to chop the big fan leaves to help the smaller growth? and when do i need to chop it down and where do i chop it?

leaves are gold. they help collect energy for the smaller growth. my neighbor trims his leaves. his plant is the mystery bag seed in my gallery. it slows vertical growth, but he tells me it keeps it low and bushy. dont chop it down until you have huge buds with dark trichrome crystals.
