Hello,

I just joined this forum yesterday and hope to be a regular in here. I am totally new to this and I am seeking knowledge regarding the matter. Of course, introducing myself more in-depth would take more than just a few sentences so I will save that for a later time or if anyone's interested, just ask. Now, moving on... I started growing my first indoor herb plant about 4 to 5 months ago, from some random seed that I acquired from one of those South of the Border Trafficked Weed Sacks. Either way, I started with germinating, then Vegging and now about 6 weeks I started flower. What I noticed, though, was that the plant I am growing looks very skinny, tends to lean sideways and it's producing barely any buds. It does show some buds on the nodes all around with the biggest one being the top one. I was doing some reading earlier today and it looks like what it needs is more light. I was doing more in-depth research and it looks like proper lighting for growing indoors tends to get on the expensive side and for pro lighting it gets really expensive. I am growing weed simply for me and I do not intend to sell at all because, simply put spending money every week on weed adds up, so I might as well grow my own. I have added a table of the materials that I use below, along with the lighting cycles and what not. I have also added pictures I took earlier yesterday with my camera phone. I know this is a REALLY GHETTO Setup, as this is my FIRST TIME! :wall:All the Help is Appreciated! Thank you for reading! :-P

Hey what's up. Welcome.
I'm a newbie too, just a heads up, you will come to see, there are many here who you will see with frequent posts, and good answers and suggestions. Read as much as you can, and keep all those suggestions in mind. Many will be the exact same, or vary just the slightest, but eventually you will get a snide or sarcastic answer-don't take those too heavy:cool:
PS when you post a question, be patient.... answers may not come in the first 5 minutes.
I know I look at a lot of threads, trying to read up and also see answers to things I might come across later on down the road, but since I don't know the answer, I don't post. That's why it may show 200 views, but you don't have any replies yet, people like me LOL

They don't weigh very much. I just cut a hole in the plastic shelf and I tie yarn to the strip and on the other end I have a stick that's too big for the hole but I can roll it up or down to adjust the lights. You can use something sturdier like picture wire or cables or something but the power strips with the lights only weigh a pound or two.

Stop with any Miracle Gro products. Pot is not a vegetable or a flower (save the "buds are their flowers" as I am well aware). None of their soils or additives do pot the best - period. If they survive it's a miracle if planted in their soil. That's why it's called "Miracle Gro".

Wal Mart sells 60 pound blocks of substrate growing medium with beneficial mycorrizhae already added. There are NO nutrients added so all you nute nuts can get your freak on with less chance of screwing up. $49 in Alaska, has to be cheaper in the Lower 48.

Lol! Indeed, I've been spending most of my time here reading up on journals and tutorials.

Awesome! Looks like I'll be shopping for more lights, soon! That seems to be the main issue with this grow. This is my first grow so and I'm loving the learning journey/experience!

LOL! Yeah, I got what you're saying. In reality, when I was shopping for soil, I wanted something "Natural" or "Organic" per-say, but somehow I ended up buying this. :-/ I will keep an eye to your suggestion for my next grow :-) and post some picks as it goes! :-D

Hi, those lower leafs r going yellow/ black because they r not getting enough light so the plant is sucking all the goodness out of them to send to the top. Buy 4 23w should cost about $12 cfl's and put them about midway up the plant all round it to get light to the lower parts. By the looks of the size of the plant it's focusing all its energy up top if u don't do something that's where the only real bud will be all the rest will be popcorn buds that don't weigh much. Good luck mate

Thanks for your input! I'll be on my way to purchase these bulbs later this evening... Would you be so kind to recommend me some off this link? I don't know if they need to be Cool or Warm... Thanks! http://www.walmart.com/search/searc...FL+Bulb&ic=16_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=0

PS: Also, I was thinking something like Eight 32Watt CFL Bubls... 8x32= 256Watts.. Dunno, just a shot in the dark :-P

Use cool white for veg and use warm for flowering :) so warm for right now

I just got back from Walmart, which is far away from me and it's the nearest store with light bulbs (I live deep in the boonies) and now that you said that and reading the back of this pack/box.. The dial is on the "Warm" side at 2700K under "Light Appearance." I got a box of 3x 26w which is all I could find and honestly, afford at this time being. Says Lumens are @ 1050-1958.. dunno if that means anything but, I guess at this point, the MORE LIGHT the BETTER, right? I will add more later this Friday if possible and update. Thanks!

Those should work out just fine. And you should put then about as close as you can without leaves growing into the lights, so about an inch or so away usually works great.

Sweet! I did place these lights about 1" away from the leaves and omfg.. these lights are much warmer compared to these cool ones I had because these cool ones weren't even warm AT ALL! Lol! I hope this helps! I will update as soon as I see some change within the plant! Thanks!

Wow, I can not believe it! After adding these bulbs and an oscillating fan (I was using the regular ceiling fan at first)... the plant is MUCH GREENER! And get this.... TWO NEW BUDS GREW OVER NIGH! O__O I'm impressed! Cannabis is SO WONDERFUL! I will keep you guys posted! Thanks!

Update: Well, the plant has grown just a little more but not anything very noticeable. It has now been about 6 weeks since it's been into flower mode and I am wondering when should it be ready to harvest? I don't have a microscope to check the trichomes and neither do I have the money to buy one at the moment. The plant still looks skinny since it was on cool light for about more than half of the flowering season. Any advise will help, thanks! I will post pictures as soon as possible!

Update

I still haven't been able to acquire (afford) one of those nice scopes to see the trichomes. Thus, I was able to dig out one of my old digital cameras and took these pictures. Sadly, this is as far as the Camera zooms as I have tried every single setting and this is the closes I could get to. She's now in her 7th week of flower stage and by the looks, it may seem as if she still needs some more time to go. But, I still need to acquire that 30x Scope to see the Trichomes in detail, to see if she's ready to bare fruit. This is my FIRST Grow and a Ghetto One at that... Lol! Please Comment/Recommend! Thanks!

PS: I love how in some of the close ups you can see that little ball-head on those Trichomes!! I'm excited! It's sad that I can't see them up close yet, to figure out if they're milky enough to harvest.. :weed:
